VS 2005 Express, Free for 1 Year

\"VisualYup, that\’s right. It is free for one year. :)

This information was taken directly from Microsoft Developers Network (MSDN) .

It does not mean after one year the product will expire or something like that. It simply means that the software will be entirely free if you download it before November 6, 2006.

The best thing about VS 2005 Express is its compatability side-by-side with other versions of Visual Studio 2005. So, you can install VS 2005 Express and VS 2005 Professional at the same time. Everything that you made in VS 2005 Express can be used in other versions of VS Studio 2005 too.

Visual Studio 2005 Express includes:

  • Visual Basic 2005 Express
  • Visual C# 2005 Express
  • Visual Web Developer 2005 Express
  • Visual C++ 2005 Express
  • Visual J# 2005 Express

Skype – 200 Million Downloads

\'200Congratulations to Skype team. Skype just reached 200 Million Downloads. It even beats Mozilla Firefox for reaching 200 Million downloads.

Next spot: 300 Million :P

Fun facts:

  • At peak time, were pumping out close to 10 downloads a second. Thats almost a million downloads every single day by now. Not quite a million every day yet, but were getting there.
  • The download traffic at peak time adds up to 500 Mbit/sec, or 0.5 Gbit/sec. Thats 500 times more than an average 1 Mbit home broadband connection.
  • We got from 0 to 100M downloads in 595 days, from 100M to 150M in 124 days, from 150M to 200M in 83 days. Theres no signs of the pace slowing down.
  • Take all of the figures with a grain of salt, since obviously not every download is completed and ends with an installation. But its still cool.

Nero 7 Premium

Just a day after Nero 7.0.0.0 was released, bit torrent sites have already released repacked version of this bloated digital media package. Why bloated? You\’ll be surprised that it is a massive 100.1 MB download. :) That\’s because Nero 7 Premium includes more software than before.

  • Nero 7 Premium includes
  • Nero Home
  • Nero Scout
  • Nero StartSmart
  • Nero Burning ROM 7
  • Nero Express 7
  • Nero WaveEditor 3
  • Nero SoundTrax 2
  • Nero Vision 4
  • Nero Recode 2
  • Nero ShowTime 2
  • Nero MediaHome
  • Nero PhotoSnap
  • Nero CoverDesigner 2
  • Nero Toolkit
  • Nero BackItUp 2
  • InCD 5
  • Nero SoundBox
  • Nero ImageDrive

It also comes with an optional Yahoo Toolbar which is not required to run Nero. It\’s just there for endorsement and enriching Nero users\’ experience.

What\’s new? Nero 6 is well known for it\’s frequent upgrades but this version is not just an upgrade. Nero 7 Premium adds more functionality to Nero programs suite. Nero 7 could manage and search for media files using Nero Home. The company claims it as a media management system, much like Windows Media Center. It also supports some remote controls for your viewing pleasure. Nero Scout adds a new explorer-like functionality in My Computer and is optimized to access media files in your computer. Nero StartSmart 3 looks similar with StartSmart 2, just with more launchers (shortcuts). Nero Burning ROM 7 and Nero Expess 7 now support DVD-R Dual Layer format, DVD+R Double Layer and Lightscribe. Lightscribe enables user to \”print\” their own labels in a Lightscribe CD/DVD using only their own burners. No printer required. Also, Blu-Ray and HD-DVD is already supported in Nero 7! I\’m clueless how you are going to use this feature without a Blu-Ray or HD-DVD drive though. :P Other remarkable upgrades can be read here.

Overall Nero 7 is better than Nero 6 but most people won\’t need all these featues anyway. Probably some people will never ever use some of these great features. So if you\’re not a digital media enthusiast and you are happy with Nero 6 or later, then don\’t upgrade yet. I suggest you wait for a couple of months until you feel comfortable for an upgrade. If you want to upgrade, do yourself a favor and don\’t install what you do NOT need; otherwise, you\’ll get a bloatware.

The new download is version 7.0.1.2 and is more stable. A demo version is also available for download if you want to to try it out first.

Firefox 1.5 RC1 Released

\'Firefox\'This morning I checked ftp.mozilla.org for Firefox 1.5 RC1 and it was finally uploaded there. During that time, the webpages of mozilla.org was not yet updated so I got my copy of 1.5 RC1 earlier than the public announcement.

Some of my favorite extensions were disabled because of the upgrade, but I don\’t mind. Most of them will be upgraded soon anyway.

Firefox 1.5 RC2, the next release, is scheduled on November 11, 2005.

Firefox 1.5 RC1 on Nov. 1

Good news! Mozilla Firefox 1.5 Release Candidate 1 is going to be released on Tuesday, November 1. I\’m going to replace my Firefox 1.0.7 install with this upcoming RC1 because I think it would be stable enough. The best thing about Firefox 1.5 is incremental updates so when the final version comes out, I won\’t have to do another full installation. :)

Flock You!

Interesting… I actually made this post using Flock and it appears to work using the metaweblog API. I just wonder how do you insert pictures here… (drag and drop?)

edit: The codes are quite messed up when editing the original Flock post… I also removed the Technorati links. :P I\’ll leave it as a mod, not a feature in my blog post.

iTunes Update Again…

I have been using iTunes since version 5, and now it\’s in version 6. Last Friday, Apple released a small update (v6.0.1) which amuse me so much. Apple\’s release cycle is becoming very short. We know it\’s better but it annoys me to download about 32 mb files every release. I really hope there\’s an incremental update for iTunes for those small security and stability updates.
