Opera Tab Close Button Annoyance

Marck V. Monday - Jan 30, 2006 2

What keeps me from using Opera as a regular browser is it’s close button on every tab. It really annoys me because when I open many tabs they get cramped together and it’s easy to close a tab inadvertently when clicking on them back and forth.

Opera Tabs

Opera compensates for this by adding a close tab history (the recycle bin at the leftmost part of the tab bar) so that you can reopen closed tabs. Now if you aren’t fond of the “close button” on every tab in Opera there’s a simple option to turn this feature off and make the close button on every tab gone to oblivion. :)

1. Go to Tools -> Preferences or CTRL + F12

2. On General tab look for show close button on each tab check box

3. Uncheck show close button on each tab check box.

Disable close button on each tab

4. Confirm by clicking Ok.

Now the close button on every tab is gone.

Opera Tabs Without Close Button

You can close individual tab by using the inner close button or by right clicking on the tab and selecting “close”, or CTRL+W.

Close Tab

In case you want the close button on every tab to appear again just enable the “show close button on each tab” option.

Don’t know is anyone is reading this but :
First before opera 11.11 the close tab button was on the right side of the tab. Opera 11.11 moved the button to the left so it matches the mac standard.
Now as i just updated for version 11.50 the close button is back on the right side of the tab just like on windows computer. WHAT WAS THAT FOR ?!?!?!
Second with opera 11.11 they’ve introduced the new speed dial design which is a PAIN. Before I had my icons organized in columns. One for my personal accounts like facebook paypall, my Internet banking account, etc, second for the news and radio channels and so on. Now all the speed dial icons are one single row, so if you remove one cel from the line all the following icons will move their position. Is it me or is this just PLAIN STUUUUPID?!?!?!?
Shouln’t things be made easier for us the users? What’s in your heads people???
I’ve been with Opera for the las 10 years and I loved it but I’m seriously thinking of moving to Apple’s Safari.

Thanks for talking time to read this old post. I have been with Opera since version 5 and I saw how it transformed. I don’t really use Opera as my main browser. I use it highly for testing and casual browsing only and I am not using Mac OS but I have read that you can modify the button placement here: http://my-beta.opera.com/community/forums/topic.dml?id=1031662
